Reservations will remain omnipresent in India-people need to start accepting this fact

As we all know, the youth of the nation is against reservation may it be in education, employment or any sector in India, and want a permanent end to it. Their views are not completely wrong," the person worthy of the position shall get it". The only way that can be done is to remove all kinds of reservations from every sector. But looking at it practically, it will never happen.

When people say reservations should be removed they tend to forget that they are just looking at the urban population where, to be honest in the current situation all people are treated equally, at least in a metropolitan. But the fact remains even now there exists cast-ism in rural India. Till today they are suppressed due to the caste they belong to. So there doesn't exist equilibrium. So for their growth, there needs to be reserved in the employment sector. If it is removed they will again be suppressed to menial jobs and like the orthodox society, their occupation will be based on their caste.

But it remains true that the quality of the nation is being compromised in the name of reservations.

When it comes to education the fact remains that for centuries the Dalit community has been kept away from education. So when the reservations were first implemented, it helped them by getting access to quality education, and even now in rural areas, Dalits are not given easy access to good education. But it remains true that it is not the case with the urban population, but there is no proper way to differentiate reservation between rural and urban populations.

The only way the country will reach equilibrium is when the mentality of the people in rural areas change and not only in rural areas but also in many of the urban population. And when the society reaches equilibrium, the country will no longer require reservations.

Now coming to the point of why it will not happen

If we observe, 70% of the masses are Dalits, even now the people who are engaged in daily labour, sanitation, waste disposal, housemaids etc. We forget the education their children are getting to the one we (we in the sense I am comparing it to my life i.e a child of higher caste but middle-class income group) can get. Not only that but from a very young age, they are made to believe the fact that their lives are gonna be the same. So if anyone wants to pursue the education they can be helped by the reservations they get in the education sector. Also since they are working in high risk and occupations they are exposed to maximum pollution, their life expectancy has been diminished a lot, and in these circumstances, a reservation in gov job helps the family.

Also, these conditions are for the people below the poverty line, but there are still people who are getting the same facilities that we are (we in the sense I am comparing it to my life i.e a child of higher caste but middle-class income group), so people tend to suggest the idea of reservation based on income. Not it is not practical, because the Income Tax department has failed to know how much a person earns because they don't show the income they earn. So there is a huge chance of misconduct if there is a reservation based on income.

When we ask to remove the reservation in India, the main question arises, "which government will do it?"

and to be honest, no government will. Masses play a major role in the election in India, and the masses are filled with the Dalit population and it is the voter base of the party that wins. Every election there are portfolios associated with the Dalit community, that help the party win the election. Now if we talk about a fictional world where the reservations were removed by the current gov, it will most probably lose to the opposition party in the next election, because they will fight on the policy that will bring back reservations. So if we consider Indian politics there is no chance that any party will even think about removing reservations.

People question me that no one expected to remove article 370, just compare the population of Jammu and Kashmir to the population of Dalit people in India. Jammu and Kashmir was just a small part of the country, but Dalits make up 25% of the Indian population. Also, it remains a fact that article 370 was more of a personal decision by Jawaharlal Nehru and reservation was a joint decision although it had its critics including Dr B.R.Ambedkar.

Taking into consideration of rural India, the influence of masses on Indian politics and the actual and much-needed aid to the people who need it, there is no way in the near future that reservations will be abolished.

But a compelling argument can be made for reservation in the education system seeing the current scenario.

So I think people need to accept the fact that reservations are still required and also that they are never gonna abolish. It is good for you as soon as you accept this fact and move on.

    1. First of all ,"everything in india is dependent on politics"
again as i mention reservation in terms of income is really hard to differentiate, if it were easy india would have 0 black money . It can lead to a lot of malpractice
also indian education dosent change the view on castism
i have seen people who are highly educated but also castists
i think as the new generation comes through it may change
      slight possibility

  6. We all know that the reservation system is active since independence, and as you said the cycle is not changing the poor are remaining poor and the wealthy are continuing to do so. The reservations were brought to break this cycle, I can't say it hasn't helped but I will say It hasn't helped much. We all work for a society where everyone is equal and get equal opportunities but according to me reservations act as a barrier, You can only bring change when you can't "move on".

  10. Reservations will reach an equilibrium stage when they will remove the family which got benefited and extending the benefits to others in the same community. There are many, who are highly educated and settled in good jobs, due to reservations, but still aspiring for reservations even in promotions...Sad state of affairs, only in India.

  16. What you said is πŸ’― percentage, only education will change our nation but still many Dalits people can't afford good education, for their bread, they will choose child labour, instead of education, you forget about quality of education in our Government school, you won't find teacher in school, basic facilities are also not provided such as water, toilets, how can they afford private school, education system in india is business, but in other developments country only Government school are for everyone rich and poor.
If you talk about our education, their will be no end to it.
Just support equality, then only reservation will removed, still today in the name of religion and caste people are not getting married to other castes or relegion, then how does this inequality change in india just think about it πŸ™

  18. Well this was actually an eye opener. You are right, no political party will come forward against this. It seems like a scenario where we all have to live in a society that favours a group of people, just because they have a stronger grasp on vote count. Makes you wonder which group is actually being mistreated. It's like that phrase...."you go so far right, you end up left". We tried as a nation to support the lower castes so much, that it's now unfair for all others. I agree, that reservation should be implemented solely on income basis, and not caste. Caste should be abolished and the word should be banned throughout the nation. Only then can this be overcome.
